Commissions

Say what you will about the Joker, but he definitely gave some good advice: “If you’re good at something, never do it for free.” I may love writing more than any other activity, but it IS a lot of work and takes up a lot of my time. If you’d like to work with me on creating original content or editing something you’ve done yourself, here are the guidelines that’ll get you started.

Writing

Looking for a freelancer to contribute an article to your website? Need a nerd to write up a formal document that you just can’t seem to wrap your head around? Is there a certain fanfiction you’ve always wanted to read, but you’re not the one to write it? Well my friends, you’ve come to the right place! Contact me with your idea and we’ll work something out!

Please note: Although the credit for the idea will be shared with you, I will retain ownership of the prose itself, and you may NOT publish or repost it without my permission and proper credit to me. (This is why most fiction commissions are for fanfiction rather than original stories, because in that scenario neither of us would be in a position to publish the result anyway.)

Necessary research: $15/hour
1-5 pages: $5/page
6-15 pages: $8/page
16-25 pages: $10/page
26+ pages: We’ll discuss it, because the scope of something like that is going to be a major factor.

Editing

Have you written a piece of your own and would like a second set of eyes to catch all the little bugs that you’re blind to as the original creator? First of all, congratulations! Just getting to this point can be difficult enough! Now that the hard part’s over, it’s time for… well, the other hard part. Don’t worry, though, because I’m here to help! Now you can take a rest while I give your work a once-over.

Please note: I do not claim works that I edit as my own, as all I’m doing is putting on the final touches, but I do require that I be credited as the editor (and that the credit not be hidden or obscured).

Basic Polish: This is predominantly for corrections that word processing programs don’t notice, such as rewording wonky sentences, keeping tense consistent, reducing repetition, and improving flow. I can also help you reduce your piece’s word count if you’re trying to work within a strict limit.

1-10 pages: $5/page
11-19 pages: $8/page
20-25 pages: $10/page
26+ pages: We’ll discuss it, because the scope of something like that is going to be a major factor.

Story Fixing: This is for those that have an unfinished work that keeps hitting roadblocks and needs a fresh set of eyes to help it get back on track. Fixing involves tasks such as restructuring plot, developing characters, adding or dropping scenes, pacing adjustments, and filling plot holes. As this is a much more in-depth process that could result in me writing or re-writing much of it myself, there’s a potential for ownership issues, which is why I require that all story fixing jobs be discussed on a case-by-case basis. The more extensive the fix, the more we need to iron out what exactly my role in the project is, how it’s credited, and how my workload will be compensated.

If you’re interested in working together on a project, then I’d love to hear from you! Please drop me a line!
