PSN Flash Sale Reduces 80+ Games to $1

Are you a gamer? Of course you are, that’s probably why you’re on this blog in the first place. But are you a PlayStation gamer? Are you a PlayStation gamer that likes titles such as Katamari Damacy, Tekken, Sam & Max, Twisted Metal, Mega Man X, Wild Arms, or other amazing franchises like them? If you said yes to these questions, then you’re probably a little weird for talking to a blog it’s your lucky day! The PlayStation Network is having a gigantic flash sale, reducing dozens of popular games to less than a dollar.

As of this writing, there are 81 titles on sale, and there’s currently no indication of just how long these prices will last. For all we know it could run all weekend or it could expire in a couple hours. If you’re a PSN user with a dollar burning a hole in your pocket, now may be a good time to look into titles such as Back to the Future or Monkey Island while they’re less than 1/20th of their regular prices.

Humble Store offers Metro 2033 Free for 24 Hours

Humble Store has officially turned a year old! If there’s one thing we all know about first birthdays, it’s that they’re pointless and no one ever remembers them– Er, I mean, that the gifts are usually more entertaining for the attendees rather than the birthday kid. As part of its birthday celebration, Humble Store has acknowledged this trend and is offering some gifts for their customers — including a free copy of Metro 2033.

The massive sales discounts — ranging form 40-85% off — will last all weekend, but the free Metro download is only for 24 hours. Get in there and download it by 10 AM PDT tomorrow morning, and if you have a few bucks to spare, take advantage of some of the deals while you’re at it. 10% of every Humble sale goes to charities such as Child’s Play and The American Red Cross.

To review: The Humble Store 1st Birthday celebration sales end Tuesday (11/11/14) at 10 AM PDT. Metro 2033 will only be available for free through 11/8/14 at 10 AM PDT, and the steam keys must be redeemed by 11/21/14 10AM PDT.

Dragon Age: Origins free on Origin through 10/14/14

Attention, Steam users: Today might be the day you stop making fun of Origin and grab an account. For the next five days, EA is offering the game Dragon Age: Origins for free. Not a demo, not a free trial; it’s simply ‘On the House’ — and once it’s added to your user library, it’s yours forever. If you didn’t already have it but were always interested in giving it a shot, today might just be your day.

The free download does not include any of the game’s DLC, but after not spending $20 for it, at least the extras will be more affordable.

If medieval RPGs aren’t your thing… Well, Bejeweled 3 is also On the House at the moment, and that’s about as far away from Dragon Age as you can get. Then again there is that whole thing about dragons hoarding treasure, so maybe they’re not as disparate as they appear.

Legend of Zelda: Four Swords For Free For Four Days

I am never writing a title like that again.

American Legend of Zelda fans are in for a treat, because for the next four days, LoZ: Four Swords Anniversary Edition is free to download from the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS. The promotion ends just before the stroke of midnight on February 2nd, allowing players four days to dig up four buddies to forgo any aforementioned plans and place more forethought on Four Swords.

Okay, I promise I’m done with the four-puns now.

And anyway you’d only need to dig up three buddies, since you’d be the fourth player.

In all seriousness, this is a big deal for Zelda fans who were disheartened to discover that Four Swords: Anniversary Edition was removed from the Nintendo eShop in 2012. The game was originally released on 9/28/11 as part of the series’ 25th anniversary celebration, and like now, it was free to download. As of 2/20/12, Four Swords was completely removed from the Nintendo eShop (not even as a paid download, just completely gone) and has not been made available again until today.

There’s no confirmation just yet if the game will disappear from listings once again after this four-day promotion, or if it will become a permanent figure in the eShop at long last. If you have any interest in obtaining the game, now is the time to do so, just in case Nintendo seals it off for the second time.

Winter Is Here: Holiday Gaming Sales

I could’ve made a much better Game of Thrones joke if WordPress would let me use strikeout in the title line…

The annual Steam Winter Sale has officially kicked off today, and will continue through January 3rd 2014. New games will be discounted each day, and according to the website banner, over 2,000 games in total will ultimately be discounted. Considering how dominant Steam has become in the world of PC gaming, this tends to be one of the biggest gaming sales of the year, and I doubt 2013 will be the exception.

Xbox Live’s annual Countdown to New Years Sale is also active as of a couple days ago, much to my chagrin. While the sales regularly rotate on XBLA as well, the expired sales are not taken down once they’ve passed, lingering instead to taunt unfortunate gamers that missed checking in. This is why I’ve missed getting Fez on sale for two years in a row.

In any case, Xbox’s yearly game sale isn’t actually limited to games and DLC: Movies, TV shoes, and avatar items have also been known to turn up with huge discounts applied. Now that XBLA operates in real currency instead of points, those discounts will end up looking like even more of a deal than usual.

In addition, GOG.com’s DRM-Free Winter Sale is currently on its 8th day. Not only are there some great deals on older games to be found, but GOG offers a new “Daily Surprise” for buyers to pick from. Three games are listed with an unknown discount applied, and buyers may choose one each day — but only one. It combines the spirit of the sale with the mystery of wondering what Santa is bringing.

Origin also appears to be doing a holiday sale — a Winter Warmer Sale, according to Google — but oddly enough they don’t really have any information on their sale posted anywhere on their website. All I can say is that apparently they have some games up to 50% off.

Kind of amazing considering that EA is the king of marketing.

 

With all of these websites practically throwing games at us, this truly is the most wonderful time of the year for gamers. It’s time for us to get out there and stock up on games to last us through 2014!

GOG.com offering Fallout 1, 2, Tactics free for next 20 hours

Good Old Games has a holiday treat for Fallout fans by offering the first three games of the franchise  — typically a $30 purchase — completely free, no funding (or DRM) required. The promotion ends Saturday at 9AM EST and has barely under 20 hours left as of this writing, which still leaves eager players plenty of time to make an account and get their free downloads.

Unlike Steam, GOG.com does not utilize a client interface and allows customers to retain full ownership of any downloaded software, as opposed to most modern user-license arrangements. The site also proudly boasts that its downloads never contain any form of digital rights management software, and may be saved by the customer to any storage device for an unlimited amount of time. Most games offered also have extra goodies available as well, such as wallpapers and soundtracks.
